Island hopping A unique vacation on a desert island in Sortavala
"Mysterious Island", "Treasure Island", "Robinson Crusoe and Friday", "Rogue One", and what associations do you have with the phrase "desert island"?
An unforgettable trip to an uninhabited island among the Ladoga skerries. Together, in a small company, with pets, you can arrange an adventure far from civilization.
*** The Ladoga skerries have hundreds of large and small islands. A 7-11-seater boat with a cabin with an experienced captain will "throw" you away from civilization. There are 7 islands to visit.
Tulolansaari Island
On the island of Tulolansaari there are rich deposits of quartzite, slate, granite of very beautiful textures and colors, there are gems. According to scientists, there are about 10 million cubic meters of granite reserves here. Perhaps the extraction of natural stone was carried out here back in the days of the Swedes in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the quarries belonged to A.A. Barinov, who opened stone-cutting workshops in the Northern Capital for the manufacture of elegant monuments and pedestals.
*** Many magnificent architectural monuments of both Russian capitals owe their origin to the island in the north of Lake Ladoga. The Russian sculptor A.I. Terebenev searched for a long time for the material for the pedestals of the Atlantean Hermitage and found it quite by chance while walking around the island. The gray granite with a rare blue tint, mined on Mount Ruotsenkallio, went to St. Petersburg to build architectural masterpieces.
*** Granite on Ladoga has not been mined for a long time, the quarries are abandoned, but well preserved. Tourists admire the beautiful granite cliffs surrounded by centuries-old pine trees. These huge trees with noble red wood were previously used in the construction of ships.
Clean air, mesmerizing sunsets, and the beauty of the island's natural landscape attract tourists from all over the world. The healing air of Tulolansaari, humidified and cool, contributed to the recovery of the great artist Roerich, the climate helped in the treatment of the lungs. He especially liked the breathtaking contrasts of forest, stone and water. Karelian legends and traditions provided inspiration. The artist believed that the northern nature and the locals nurtured in him a sense of beauty.
