Ruskeala is the most popular mountain park in Karelia
Ruskeala Mountain Park is an amazing eco-park near Sortavala
It grew up on the site of ancient quarries of the XVIII–XIX centuries, the same ones from where granite and marble were sent to St. Petersburg for the construction of palaces, bridges and monuments. Today it is a place where history meets nature and creates something truly magical.
Stroll through deep tunnels, explore underground caves with stalactites, ride trolleys — each tour leaves vivid impressions and a desire to return again.
In summer and autumn, trolley rides over the Marble Canyon and boat trips on the crystal clear lake are especially popular. The water here is so clear that it feels like you are floating through the air.
Where to stay?
It is difficult to find accommodation directly in Ruskale — and it is not always comfortable. We recommend renting a house in Sortavala: a relaxing stay by the lake, comfort, complete infrastructure — and only 30 minutes to the park.
Ruskeala Express — time travel
Departs from Sortavala railway station. A steam locomotive with real coal in the furnace, carriages in the style of the XIX century, panoramic windows, a delicious breakfast and a fresh newspaper — everything to make you feel like heroes of another era. Adults are delighted with the atmosphere, children are delighted with the adventure. And the views of Karelia from the window will be remembered for a long time.

How to get there?
